PRISM DESIGN is an international architecture and design studio whose partners have worked for many years in architectural design in various disciplines. These areas of expertise range from interior design, product design, and exhibition design (commercial spaces, hospitality, residential, health and wellness bars, restaurants, retail and office design), to art direction and design consulting for companies operating in the furniture and fashion industries. Our team is composed of a group of creative people from different backgrounds, working together in an ongoing cultural exchange. All work carried out by the Studio is characterized by a strong design identity, the result of assiduous research and creativity. This identity is found throughout all of our work and allows for innovative design and the extension of the parameters of architecture and design.

Located in the historic centre of SHANGHAI_CHINA, the studio was founded in 2009 by TOMOHIRO KATSUKI. While the headquarters are still in SHANGHAI, the studio has expanded to include international operations and now has branch in BEIJING_CHINA (2011) and TOKYO_JAPAN (2011) ,HIROSHIMA-FUKUYAMA_JAPAN(2016) .

The creative process is akin to a journey, undertaken in close collaboration with the client, creating a strong interaction between people, objects and space. These goals are achieved in agreement with each other and can bring unforeseen results, finding a balance between rational functionality and the emotional realm. Our work obtains its inspiration from continuous research and through multiple artistic influences. Each new project is a source for constant growth and evolution.

Moonlit Garden Wuxi Sales Center by Tomohiro Katsuki Moonlit Garden Wuxi is a sales center located in the New District of Wuxi, China. The interior uses regional materials linked to local industry, such as cloth, iron, bamboo and Taihu Lake stone. A twenty meter entrance passage uses mirrors to create repeated reflections that suggest a bamboo forest. The ground floor recalls the historical background of Wuxi through these local materials. A belt of artificial greenery is installed on the ceiling of the underground lounge. The facility remains open like a public park, so local residents can meet and interact.

Both Boutique & Music Vinyl Record Bar & Cafe by Tomohiro Katsuki Both Boutique and Music is a retail interior project in Red Town, a former ironworks in Shanghai that is now a sculpture art district. The scheme covers a boutique of 370 square meters and a music store of 170 square meters set over two levels. The design is built on the idea of contrast between Western and Eastern, old and new, and static and dynamic. The boutique is treated as a bridge that brings goods from around the world, while the music store is arranged around the act of focusing. The surrounding art park setting is retained to encourage exchange among local residents.

SUIGETSU JAPANESE RESTAURANT JAPANESE RESTAURANT by Tomohiro Katsuki Suigetsu Japanese Restaurant is a dining interior of 370 square metres in Chongqing, China. The design combines Chongqing and Japanese cultural references. Floor levels change in height to recall the local landscape. The plan follows the meeting paths of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers and also refers to Feng Shui principles. The ceiling is shaped like a folded fan, with an aluminium alloy frame and wood textured surfaces. Acrylic light boxes on the glass facade recall paper lanterns and glow at night.

SugarLady Ladies Apparel Popup Store by Tomohiro Katsuki SugarLady is a pop-up store interior created for a ladies apparel brand in Shanghai, China. The sugar crystal is used as the main theme, linking the interior to the name of the brand. Each display cell is built from a steel frame covered with an industrial nylon sheet. LED panels of 600 by 600 millimetres light the cells from within, so every unit glows softly. The cells are simple and light, so they can be assembled, moved and recombined in many arrangements. The total area is 6 by 10 metres and includes a fitting room.

Unbot inc. Office Design Office by Tomohiro Katsuki Mobius Loop is an office interior designed for an information technology service company. The layout follows the infinity concept of the Mobius loop, creating a seamless space and a continuous cycle that stands for creation, exchange, manufacturing, success and challenge. A loft extension adds floor area above the main level, giving a total of 440 square meters. The columns use a wood motif with a reinforced structure and refer to trees as a symbol of personal growth. The open plan eases communication and leaves room for future expansion.

Niannujiao Jiaoding Flagship Store by Tomohiro Katsuki Niannujiao Jiaoding Flagship Store is a retail interior in Beijing, China, that holds two women's fashion brands in one space of 180 square meters. The design concept is balanced neutral. Style, color, circulation, function and product range are balanced so that each brand keeps its own character. Niannujiao is elegant and clear, while Jiaoding is modern, simple and fashionable. Materials include gray slate tile, bronze steel plating, clear mirror, white and pink paint, wood sheet, fabric and artificial terrazzo.

Fontworks Inc. Tokyo Head Office by Tomohiro Katsuki Fontworks Inc. Tokyo is a head office interior for a type foundry, located on the fifth floor of a building in Minato-ku, Tokyo. The office covers 431 square metres and is planned around the fusion of analog and digital work. A C-shaped desk supports creative tasks and collaboration between employees. A large display set in the centre of a wall stays connected with the Creative Lab in Fukuoka, so the two sites can communicate online. A stair-shaped bench near the entrance allows casual meetings with visitors. Materials include carpet tiles, wood, Corian, steel and cork board.
