Sayoko Shibuya

Born in Nagoya, Japan.
Sayoko was educated in Architecture, Interior and furniture design both in England and Japan.
It was during her undergraduate studies in London, Sayoko broadened her design spectrum to incorporate furniture design whilst also developing spatial practice. After having been educated in interior design and architecture, physical feeling became important to the development of her designs. As well as approaching projects from different aspects to solve problems, examining ideas is also one of the important key points during the development process. At Master’s level (at Goldsmiths, University of London), she deepened her understanding of theory behind the designs. Experienced two cultural experiences; Japanese and British: this cultural background has even more broadened her imagination for design and the fundamental concept behind all of the designs is to portray an elegant simplicity, mirroring her Japanese minimalist influence. Design is for human beings to enhance their life, therefore understanding environments, cultures and all kind of aspects around us is essential. However, in terms of the functional side, neutral thought is crucial to avoid reducing possible opportunities for everyone. She also experiments with material its natural ability or explore their potential possibility.
