Residence for Single Family by Teruo Miyahara

Light Welling House Residence for Single Family by Teruo Miyahara Light Welling House is a detached single family residence built on a narrow urban site in Tokyo. The site is small and irregular in shape, and natural light could not be drawn from the east or west sides. The stairs were therefore designed as a path of light. The steps are made of perforated metal and the stairwell has glass walls, so daylight reaches each room and is carried from the upper level down to the lower levels. The position of the stairs was set by calculating the altitude of the winter sun. The rooms are finished in white to spread the borrowed light further.
