Karsten Thormaehlen

As a trained graphic designer, Karsten Thormaehlen created and produced as an art- and creative director based in New York in the late 1990 advertising campaigns for international cosmetic and fashion brands (Bogner, Davidoff, Douglas Parfumeries, Halston, Joop, Jordache, Jil Sander, Lancaster, Nikos, Redken etc.). Since 2003 he works as a freelance photographer and director in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
He gained international recognition with his freelance book and exhibition projects about old age and aging in modern societies. On this theme he published four books, the exhibition "Jahrhundertmensch / Happy at 100" has been displayed more than 50 times in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Japan, the projects itself as well as single outtake shots have been awarded more than 30 times including "Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize" (2x), "Cannes Lions", "Clio Awards", "Lürzer's 200 Best Ad Photographers in the World" (2x), "IPA", "Px3" (3x), "ICA".
