Owner & Head Designer of JOHI Furniture & Design. Trained in product design, I have always been drawn to creating with wood. Shaping and building, wood requires you to interact with its natural figure and colors that have grown into it over its lifetime. In the process of refining a vision into a final piece, so much is taken away - so I also have sought ways to highlight the pieces that often get left behind.

I created JOHI with my wife Holly, to design and create furniture, home decor, and wooden surf gear that can bring us closer to the people and places we call home. More work can be found at hellojohi.com.

Pohihi Entry Console by Raja Badr-El-Din Pohihi is an entry console designed for storage in modern homes. The body is made of stained beech, and the four drawer fronts are made of monkeypod. The drawers are built from solid beech and slide on wooden tracks. Handwoven laced Danish cord forms the cabinet door and a low shelf. The woven door works as both a decorative surface and a handle, as no separate handle is fitted. Magnetic fittings hold the door closed, and the interior includes a shelf. The weaving reflects Arab and Hawaiian cultural traditions.
