I am a post graduate, with a master degree in laboratory of medicine in the field of haematology/Blood transfusion, from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia. From where I can recall, I have always had an eye for details and it was through leveraging this innate personality trait that I decided to choose science in the first place where micro details are as important as big pictures.
After 6 years of living in Australia, furthering my academic studies and working in my field of study, as well as, working part time in one of the high-end department stores of Melbourne, I found myself amazed and intrigued by the beauty of textile and fashion designs of renowned brands around me. I gained valuable experiences and motivations and developed the required confidence to pursue my passion. In 2015 I returned to Iran/ Tehran with a broadened horizon and decided to pursue a career in line with my passion for art, and the thirst for creation, which lead me to the world of fashion design and pushed me to start gaining academic experiences in the field.
Hence, I completed an official course in fashion design, throughout this academic path, I also participated in collection designing workshops, hosted by Milan Haute Future Fashion Academy in Tehran, which gave me the skills to communicate my visions through wearable creations.
Fashion design for me is a form of art, through which my ideas can come into beings and be sensed and experienced by people as wearable pieces, sculptural pieces, while articulating science infused with art.
These all brought me to a point in time when I established my own clothing brand called SAAKU. Each season, the very essence of SAAKU’s designs draws from the fascinating beauty that is etched in every corner of the two worlds of nature and science and these roots are inseparable parts of the brand’s identity.
The growth of botany, funguses, wonders of thousands of beautiful creatures on earth and in the oceans, the formation of natural stones underneath the deep layers of the soil, that have been quarried through the centuries, cosmos and space, amazing species of the birds, geometry of birth and the death of the cells, the ordered disorders, mesmerizing normal and pathological tissue patterns or many other scientific subjects that are indeed themselves a form of art.

Humpback Whale Song Conceptual Fashion Design by Maryam Yazdanpanah The collection is inspired by, the humpback whales and their songs. The idea of the project started to develop during and after a deadly injury that happened to the designer of the project. she sought help from a sound engineer friend of hers, to extract the sound spectrum of the humpback whale song. The process was followed by the design of a new graphical pattern with reference to the main sound spectrogram. Due to the cubic form and pixelated nature of the final pattern, she travelled to city of Yazd home of ikat in Iran to create her very own handmade fabric.
