Cameron Smith has a passion for design and approaches everything he does as a design challenge. With design training from Stanford University’s renowned design program, he’s built a successful design career founding and running Product Creation Studio, a product development consulting firm. With 30 years of design experience, he has been honored with international awards for furniture, lighting and product designs. His background in mechanical engineering and industrial design helped shape his design philosophy which centers around exploring design and the interaction between people and the products they use in both technical and emotional ways.

Cameron has a long history and love for furniture design. Through design school he gravitated toward furniture and more environmental designs over electronics. His master’s thesis at Stanford University centered around cordless environments and manifested itself in a unique sculptural desk which he continues to use to this day. By starting Furniture Smith, Cameron created an avenue to re-engage in the design process and create truly novel designs that spawn from inspiration and raise the standards and consumer expectations for everyday products. His drive to explore form and function by merging art and engineering to create unique pieces is rare in a business environment measured by economic success. With his keen eye for detail, he emulates the human body as an innovative machine and as an art form. Each piece is beautifully crafted and thought out with parts that are as functional as they are elegant.

Good Day Chaise Lounge Chair by Cameron Smith Good Day is a chaise lounge chair designed for relaxation. The seat is made of sand cast aluminum and is suspended from an aluminum crossbar carried by heavier cast legs, so the seat appears light while the base stays grounded. An internal steel frame is cast in place to strengthen the thin seat. The leather pads are formed over a mold, so no stitching or seams are visible. Magnets embedded in the casting and in the pads keep the pads secure and allow easy removal for cleaning or a change of leather. The chair measures 635 mm wide, 1600 mm deep and 830 mm tall.

Arms Outdoor Longue Chair by Cameron Smith Arms is an outdoor lounge chair designed for comfort and social interaction. The frame is made of powder coated sheet aluminium, and four teak slats are inset within the frame to create a nested look. The slats are removable for easy cleaning and maintenance. Slots in the frame allow captured water to drain and add ventilation for drying. The bent legs shorten the overall length, so the chair fits in tighter spaces than lounge chairs with straight legs. An optional cushion in outdoor fabric can be added for extra comfort.

Decker Folding Yacht Chair by Cameron Smith Decker is a folding chair designed for use on yachts. The chair opens as a low lounge chair and folds to a compact form only 100 millimetres thick. The frame is made of stainless steel with trapezoidal tubing and cast lugs, joined by brass hardware at the pivot points. Teak slats are attached to webbing straps rather than to the frame, so the seat and back flex with the user. An over-centre geometry holds the straps in tension when the chair is open. A jog in the seat frame forms a carrying handle, and magnets keep the folded legs in place.

Crisscross Folding Chair by Cameron Smith Crisscross is a folding chair designed for everyday use. Most folding chairs are lightweight and made for temporary use, and they give up quality and comfort. Crisscross offers flexible seating without sacrificing quality. The chair folds so it can be stored or moved to another room. A geared mechanism concealed within the back leg creates a synchronized motion between the seat and the legs. No linkages are visible, so the form stays simple. When folded, the whole chair nests within the front legs. The frame is made of bent sheet steel with steam bent wood inlays.

Colby Lounge Chair by Cameron Smith Colby Lounge is a lounge chair designed for children and adults. The form is based on two rounded elliptical cushions inspired by the human body. The rounded shapes allow several seating positions, so a user can sit upright, lounge sideways or curl up. The legs are made of precision-bent aluminum with a powder-coat finish, and the non-parallel stance gives stability without cross bracing. The foam core is covered with Alcantara microfiber in solid or striped colors. The chair measures 1020 mm wide, 930 mm deep and 760 mm tall.
