Meiqi ZhaoI am a product designer and AI product builder with a background in human-computer interaction, user experience design, and digital product strategy. My design work focuses on creating intelligent, accessible, and emotionally meaningful experiences that help people interact with complex technology in simpler and more human ways.
I hold a Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction from the University of Michigan School of Information, where I developed a strong foundation in user research, interaction design, usability evaluation, accessibility, and design systems. My professional experience spans AI consumer products, healthcare research platforms, and creative digital tools. Across these projects, I have consistently worked at the intersection of user needs, emerging technology, and visual communication. One of my representative projects is Nomnow AI Calorie Tracker, a multimodal nutrition app that transforms calorie tracking from a manual logging process into a more natural interaction through image recognition, voice input, and conversational guidance. As the product designer, I led the end-to-end experience design, including user flow, interface structure, interaction model, and visual direction. My goal was not only to improve efficiency, but also to make health tracking feel less stressful and more supportive for everyday users. I have also designed AI-assisted biomedical research interfaces at the University of Michigan Medicine, where I worked on making complex scientific data platforms more usable for researchers. This experience strengthened my belief that good design is not decoration; it is a bridge between advanced systems and real human understanding. My design philosophy is grounded in clarity, empathy, and usefulness. I believe strong design should reduce cognitive burden, reveal value quickly, and create trust between users and technology. I am especially interested in how design can shape the next generation of AI-native products, where interaction, intelligence, and visual expression work together as one coherent experience. As a designer, I aim to create products that are not only functional, but also thoughtful, responsible, and culturally relevant. My long-term goal is to contribute to design work that improves everyday life and expands how people engage with technology, health, creativity, and knowledge. Nomnow AI Calorie Tracker by Meiqi Zhao NomNow is a calorie tracking application for mobile and desktop devices. The application accepts voice, image, and text input, so meals can be logged in the way that suits each situation. Artificial intelligence identifies the food and calculates the nutrition values, which removes manual searching and form filling. The screens include daily calorie intake, a logging page, a calendar of past entries, and a weight change view. NomNow runs on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, and aims to make nutrition monitoring simple and easy to sustain. |
