Hiroshi TakahashiI’ve poured my heart and soul into applying the skills I honed there to woodworking.
To overcome the two major challenges associated with wooden products—namely, “thickness and weight” and “bulkiness that makes them hard to store”—I conducted repeated prototyping. I cut the wood by fitting it into a mold. By fitting the wood into a mold, the resistance during cutting prevents the workpiece from warping, making it possible to machine it to a thickness close to its limit. Furthermore, through a design optimized for stacking, I have created ultra-thin products that can be stacked seamlessly and stored compactly. I believe that applying this technology to waste wood will contribute to the SDGs and open up new possibilities for the woodworking industry. Com Plates Wooden Tableware by Hiroshi Takahashi Com Plates Wooden Tableware is created using a proprietary manufacturing process developed by a mold manufacturer, applying advanced metalworking expertise to wood. This technology overcomes the traditional drawbacks of wooden products, such as weight and bulk, redefining the possibilities of wooden tableware. Upcycled from discarded wood, each plate is precision carved to achieve remarkable thinness. Its refined form enables gap free stacking while offering a sculptural presence that supports creative table settings and functions as an art object. |
